On one of the forums someone asked…Is it time for socialized healthcare in the US of A?

To answer their question, probably not for the foreseeable future.

This sums up why no socialized healthcare for the US of A…

Our healthcare system is just too darn profitable for the rich and powerful.

Dry Cleaning the biggest American flag in the World - Univ. Detroit 1955 - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

The Dems gave us Obamacre and it has the stamp of approval of SCOTUS, so that is how it stands. The Dems gave you all they plan to give when it comes to healthcare.

Even if the Reps regained power they would never give you socialized healthcare. The MOST the Reps will do is to repeal Obamacare and replace it with…NOTHING. (Or, maybe you will get tax credits for buying unusable health insurance.) So whether we are talking about Reps or Dems…I don’t know where socialized healthcare scheme will come from.

Republican Celebration 1929 Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

In general, here is how the 2 parties compare…

Dems = Atheist loving, abortion loving, minority loving, homosexual loving, illegal alien loving, welfare loving, legalized dope loving, gun hating.

Reps =  Atheist hating, abortion hating, minority hating, homosexual hating, illegal alien hating, welfare hating legalized dope hating, gun loving.

So if your stuck paying mandate fines cause you can’t afford Obamacare, don’t hold your breath for a repeal of Obamacare any time soon.

1968 Republican National Convention Miamai Beach - Gov. Ronald Reagan - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

As the robots take the jobs and the gig economy replaces trad jobs, people will be scrambling to pay the ever-increasing fines for not being able to afford overpriced, unusable Obamacare.

On the news they are talking about charging people a carbon tax for having babies!

1955 National Young Republican Convention Detroit - Vice President Richard M. Nixon - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

Obamacare did me more harm than anything else. I used to be able to cover doctor office visits out of pocket, but can’t afford it any more. In Jan 2016 I called a dermatologist to ask about a wart removal and it is $490 for 5 minutes of work. The doctor does not even do it…his assistant does it.

John f. kennedy in Mexico city 1962 - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

In 2015 it was $175 for the same wart removal, but they raised the rates if your uninsured. They said it is illegal for me to not have med insurance under Obamacare and it is insurance fraud for them to charge a different rate than what they get under Obamacare when they bill insurance companies and that is $490.

Capitalist healthcare system is TOO profitable to have it dismantled. The rich interests make too much money. So any talk of socialist change is knocked down quick by the rich lobbyists of the healthcare industry. Insurance companies love our system, hospitals love our system, doctors love our system. The only ones that don’t love it are the middle class users. (The poor get med care for free and rich can afford whatever they want. )

In the 70’s I went to college for $6.50 a semester at L.A.A.C. and $63 a trimester at Cal State L.A. take all the classes you want to for one fee. I think U.C.L.A. was $1800 a year back then, but I couldn’t afford it. You could visit a doctor for $15 to $20 for an office check up. Sure, things go up with inflation, but college and health care were not run as big business back in the day.

1940 Democratic National Convention - Chicago, IL- Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

Medicine prices started to skyrocket once the greedy learned they can hike up medicine costs by astounding percentages. They can hold the chronically ill by ransom…it is pay up or die. This goes back to the link at the beginning…

There is nothing wrong with this…is there? This is textbook material on how a good capitalist should work. Get the highest price the market will bear for the product. If a pill cost .35 cents to make, why not mark it up to $1000 a pill? If an insurance company will pay for it, why not $5,000 or $10874.67 a pill? There is no law against making profits…this is not Mayberry.

Many people complaining they cannot afford Obamacare. Even if they can pay the premiums, they find thousands of $ in deductibles and copay unaffordable for day to day needs.  I think the goal of insurance companies is to sell you insurance you can not use unless your dying or very sick. Even then you have to be a millionaire to pay your half of the bill.

Here are some quotes for med insurance for me. Most of these are short term plans 6 – 12 months plans. No long term plan offered for someone in their 60’s at this broker. Monthly premium rates are bold. Coinsurance is…you pay that % of all healthcare costs.

Really, socialized med is hard to promote in the US as we are a capitalist country. The greedy special interests and rich will tear down socialized healthcare as communism.

Nikita Khrushchev 1960 - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

The rich don’t want to use socialized healthcare – the rich only want the best healthcare. And the best healthcare is our current healthcare system…if you can afford it.

The only way socialized healthcare would work is to have a 2 tier system. The rich can pay for the best if they don’t want socialized med. The average person can use the socialized plan. If they don’t like the socialized healthcare then they can round up enough money to pay for the ‘fee for service’ high priced medical care.

This is how it is with our public education system. Even if you don’t have kids, real estate owners pay into a pot to pay for public schools. If the person does not want to send their kid to public schools they can pay for private schools. This is how it should be for med care in the US.

Don’t think so?

1936 RNC Temple of Dreams - Daniel D. Teoli Jr Archival Collection (44)m

Then keep on with the current unsustainable system and hope you will always have full coverage med insurance or will never lose your $ if your rich… for you wont like the other option.

The rich talk about class warfare as an excuse to keep fleecing the flock, but it is the poor has who has been taking the brunt of the shots from the rich and the politicians in their pocket.

1928 DNC Claude G. Bowers Temple of Dreams Daniel D. Teoli Jr Archival Collection (17)m

There is nothing wrong with being a capitalist as long as it is done on a fair playing field. But, the modern day capitalist problem is based in the fact that the rich control the politicians and the politicians only pass legislature that benefits the rich. So, the poor consistently get the short end of the stick with no one looking out for them.

A High hat Affair - Westminister Schoolboys -London 1934 - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

If we were ants or bees we could succeed as communists and put the success of our community as our ultimate goal. But as greedy, egocentric humans, communism has never succeeded no matter how they tried. Self centered, greedy, egos fail at communism. It takes selfless behavior to succeed at communism. Can you imagine bees or ants running their world as greedy capitalists…they would be extinct!

A.B. 'Happy' Chandler Deomocratic Convention 1956 - Daniel D. Teoli Jr. Archival Collection

Well, this is our world, take care of your health best you can. It will most likely just get more expensive as time goes on for healthcare.
